Below Grade Flooring
Below grade flooring is engineered specifically for basement installations where concrete slabs and moisture vapor present unique challenges. JAB Floors carries products rated for below-grade use throughout Greater Vancouver homes.
About Below Grade Flooring Flooring
Below grade means below ground level—basements, walkout levels, and any room sitting on a concrete slab in direct contact with soil. These spaces face constant moisture vapor transmission from the ground, even when the concrete appears dry. Standard flooring products can fail in these conditions, developing mold, warping, or delaminating over time as moisture migrates through the slab. Products rated for below-grade installation feature moisture barriers, vapor-resistant cores, or construction methods that tolerate humidity levels that would damage conventional flooring. Luxury vinyl with rigid SPC cores excels in these applications because the stone-polymer composite is completely impervious to moisture. Engineered hardwood with proper vapor barriers also works well in Metro Vancouver basements, while solid hardwood is never recommended below grade regardless of moisture mitigation efforts. JAB Floors stocks below-grade approved flooring from trusted manufacturers including Beaulieu Canada, Fuzion, and TORLYS. Our Lower Mainland showroom features samples suited for basement renovations, with professional installation that includes proper moisture testing and subfloor preparation.
