Natural (Black Walnut)

Black Walnut commands attention in a way stained oak simply cannot match. The species' natural chocolate coloring includes warm purple and burgundy undertones that shift subtly with changing light throughout the day—particularly beautiful in rooms with the soft coastal light common to this region. This complexity develops naturally, creating a floor that genuinely changes character from morning to evening.

Goodfellow delivers real Black Walnut at mid-market positioning—impressive considering the species typically commands significant premiums. The 2mm wear layer matches the White Oak options, providing refinishing potential for this investment-grade floor that **Metro Vancouver flooring contractors** recommend for long-term value.

The character grade allows natural features including mineral streaks, color variation, and grain inconsistencies that add authenticity. Some boards will be lighter (sapwood), others darker (heartwood). This variation is inherent to walnut and contributes to its organic appeal that works beautifully in both contemporary condos and character homes.

Wire-brushing suits walnut beautifully. The species' softer hardness rating (compared to oak) means scratches are possible; the texture disguises them effectively. This practical consideration makes wire-brushed walnut significantly more livable than smooth alternatives for households with active lifestyles.

At slightly higher pricing than the oak options, Natural Black Walnut represents genuine value. Comparable walnut flooring from premium brands often costs 50-100% more. For homeowners dreaming of walnut but deterred by typical pricing, Riverside Heights offers an accessible entry point.
