Chromium

Chromium represents the Atomic collection's contemporary face, offering a gray oak aesthetic that's become synonymous with modern interior design. At 8mm thick with an AC4 rating, it delivers genuine commercial-grade performance at an entry-level residential price point.

The Välinge 5G locking system is the real standout here. This isn't a proprietary knockoff—it's the genuine article from the Swedish company that pioneered click-lock flooring. Installation is genuinely straightforward: angle the long side, drop and click the short side. Even first-time DIYers report successful installations without frustration.

The aluminum oxide surface layer provides solid scratch resistance, though it's worth noting this is standard laminate, not waterproof. You'll want to wipe up spills promptly and avoid using it in full bathrooms. However, the water-resistant construction handles the occasional kitchen splash or wet shoes without issue.

At 54 inches long, these planks create fewer seams than typical budget laminates, contributing to a more realistic wood appearance. The lightly embossed texture adds tactile dimension, though it lacks the deep embossed-in-register detail found on premium lines. Greater Vancouver installers often recommend Atomic for rental properties and budget renovations where the price-to-performance ratio matters most.

The lifetime residential warranty is generous for this price tier, and the 5-year commercial warranty legitimizes its AC4 rating. For rental properties, condos, or budget-friendly renovations where contemporary style matters, Chromium delivers real value.
